
A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck near the southern Kuril Islands on Thursday, the Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Sakhalin said.
Russia – .. "The earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale was recorded Thursday at 13:13 local time (1713 Moscow time) in the southern Kuril Islands," Yelnu Seminova, head of the Seznalskuk Earthquake Station, told the . news agency.
"The epicenter of the quake occurred at latitude coordinates 44.5 north and longitude 149.1 east and 116 kilometers southeast of Iturup island at a depth of 62 km," it said.
According to the Sakhalin district emergency department, residents of the area did not feel shaken.
There was no tsunami warning or any reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake.
