The Facebook social network has for the first time agreed to hand over user data to external jurisdictions.

In an interview with Reuters, the French Minister of State for the Digital Economy, Cedric O, said that Facebook agreed to hand over its users' data to the French courts.

"We have entered into an agreement with Facebook to provide identification data and all information related to users who broadcast hate speech, benefiting from the Facebook platform," he said.

He pointed out that "Facebook" will provide French investigators with data on user sites, who broadcast hate speech across the platform.

"In accordance with our negotiations, they agreed to send basic information about users accused of spreading hate over the Internet, which will be officially requested by the courts," he said.

"This means that the judicial process will be able to move forward normally, which is very important right now for France and to combat hate speech."

He pointed out that in the past, Facebook refused to give any data or information about users, except in the case of formally charged and convicted of involvement in terrorist crimes or pornography with children.
