Mossad chief Yossi Cohen accused Iran of being behind the bombing of oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that Israel would not allow any Iranian position in Syria.
Jerusalem – .. "Iran is definitely behind the bombing of oil tankers in the Gulf," Cohen told the 19th Herzliya Conference on Monday in Tel Aviv.
"Iran is seeking to annihilate Israel and put it in the center of its antagonism and hatred, as opposed to other countries in the region that are seeking a new and prosperous Middle East and are not prepared to tolerate Iran's barbaric actions," Cohen said.
"Israel will not allow Iran to be militarily concentrated in Syria," Cohen said.
"We see a rare historic opportunity to reach a comprehensive peace agreement in the region," Cohen said.
Washington accused Tehran of being behind the attack on Saudi and Emirati tankers in the Sea of Oman a few weeks ago.
US-Iranian relations have seen tension and military escalation recently after Washington accused Tehran of being behind the attacks, as well as dropping a US aircraft.
About two weeks ago, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced the fall of a modern American reconnaissance aircraft with an Iranian missile over the Strait of Hormuz, allegedly for infiltration into Iranian airspace.
In response, Trump revealed that Washington was on the verge of striking Iran, in response to the downing of the plane, but decided to stop it 10 minutes ahead of time after he knew it could cause the death of 150 people.
