Doha has bought Lebanese government bonds as part of a plan to invest $ 500 million in the Lebanese economy, a government official said on Sunday.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry announced this year that Doha plans to invest $ 500 million in Lebanese government bonds to support Lebanon's struggling economy.
Lebanon suffers from one of the highest rates of public debt to GDP in the world as well as from stagnation in economic growth.
"Qatar has always been committed to strengthening its relations with the brotherly Republic of Lebanon, so I have decided to invest $ 500 million in the Lebanese economy, including the purchase of Lebanese government bonds, we bought some bonds, the rest of the investments will be as planned with the Lebanese government, .
