A member of the Syrian parliament, Aref al-Taweel, called on parliaments to unite their efforts to combat disinformation, proposing to document information about false news.
Moscow – .. "I call on all parliaments to unite efforts in combating disinformation and false news," he said during a speech at the second Inter-Parliamentary Forum in Moscow. "I propose that information be documented on the false news that affects all of our countries and that this information is periodically shared among parliaments. Bodies and methods they follow. "
"What happened in my country is a very clear example of what media wars and false news are doing," he said.
"Prior to the start of the war in Syria, media campaigns were launched by well-known international news agencies with wide spread and influence, with offices in the United States, Britain, France and Al-Jazeera in Qatar," he said.
"Some of the superpowers have taken unfair decisions and sanctions, the most important of which is the suspension of the broadcasting of Syrian television stations via satellite channels, and blocked the websites of the Syrian electronic media and prevented their access abroad. These intensive media campaigns aimed at the Syrian interior resulted in violence that Syria has not seen in its modern history" .
The second session of the International Forum on Parliamentary Development was held in Moscow on Monday, on the initiative of the Russian State Duma, which takes place between July 1-2.
About 130 countries from around the world are participating in the forum, which aims to seek effective legislative solutions and respond to global challenges.
The Forum's program includes current international issues such as security, stability and legislative support for the development of the digital economy, prospects for parliamentary institutions, youth, environmental policy and other priority themes.
