Omani writer Joukhha Al Harthy won the Man Booker World Prize in 2019 for her novel "Moon Ladies".

Al-Harithi became the first Arab woman to receive the award, worth 50 thousand pounds sterling, shared by the writer and the translator, the newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported.

The prize committee announced its short list two months ago, and included six authors (5 writers and one writer), translated into five languages: Arabic, French, German, Polish and Spanish, all by translators.

It is noteworthy that Jouja Al-Harthy has 3 novels, two stories and two children's stories, and her novel "Narangha" (2016) won the Sultan Qaboos Prize for Culture, Arts and Letters 2016.

The long list included 13 works, among them two Arab works, "Nekat al-Muslenein" by Palestinian writer Mazen Ma'arouf, as well as the novel by Jouka al-Harithi, a work published in Britain or Ireland.

The jury included five members headed by Bethany Hughes, a historian and author. The winner or winner of the award will be announced on May 21 in the British capital.
