The Artek camp (now the International Youth Center) is a symbol of the life of the pioneers of summer camps in the Soviet era.
The camp was established in 1925 and received about 27,000 children a year at its peak.
In addition to pioneers from across the Soviet Union, the camp also hosted children from 70 foreign countries from around the world.
As well as honorary guests, including Yuri Gagarin, the world's first astronaut, Frank Burman (retired colonel of the US Air Force and NASA astronaut), André Good (French writer and Nobel prize laureate in 1947) and others.
