At the end of its fiftieth session, the Council of Arab Information Ministers, at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo, selected Wednesday as the capital of Arab media for 2020.
Cairo – .. According to the UAE News Agency (WAM), "this is an affirmation of the important role of the UAE as an incubator for Arab and international media, and in recognition of Dubai's privileged position."
The UAE Minister of State, Chairman of the National Media Council, Sultan Al Jaber, commented on the decision, saying:
The selection of Dubai as a capital for Arab media coincides with the UAE hosting the Expo 2020, which will allow more than 30 million visitors to learn about the events, which will be presented on the occasion of the selection of Dubai as the capital of Arab media.
"We are keen to coordinate and cooperate with the Media Department of the League of Arab States, the Arab States Broadcasting Union, the Arab Journalists and Writers Associations, the TV and the Joint Production Corporation of the Gulf States to enrich the events that will be organized to mark Dubai as the capital of Arab media."
The UAE minister stressed the support of ambitious and innovative media projects and initiatives that contribute effectively to the development of the Arab media sector, enhancing its role and reaching the world through openness to cultures and civilizations.
The 11th session of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, chaired by the Saudi Minister of Information, Turki Al-Shabana, concluded its work at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The Executive Office discussed the recommendations submitted to it by the Standing Committee for Arab Information to prepare draft resolutions and the agenda of the 50th Ministerial Session of the Council of Ministers of Information.
The Executive Office has prepared a number of recommendations and draft resolutions on the Palestinian issue, and discussed how to address the American decision to recognize occupied Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel, the role of the media in countering terrorism and the media map on achieving sustainable development.
It also included means of upgrading the Arab media, in order to support programs of awareness and advocacy of vital issues of the Arab region, within the framework of the plan of Arab action abroad, and the role of the Arab media in spreading the values of tolerance.
