A South Korean poll on support for a boycott of Japanese goods showed more than 50 percent amid escalating trade disputes between the two countries.
More than 54 percent of the respondents supported the boycott of Japanese goods, an increase of 606 percent compared to the previous poll, according to a poll conducted by real-world surveying agency Real Meter. While more than 39 percent expressed their refusal to participate in the boycott campaign.
Japan tightened export restrictions against South Korea in early July in response to South Korean Supreme Court decisions ordering Japanese companies to compensate workers who had been forced to work in South Korea during World War II.
Earlier, Japan confirmed that all workers' issues had been settled in its entirety under the 1965 agreement, which aimed at normalizing bilateral relations between the two countries.
