42 years ago, Russia saw the launch of a new fighter jet.
The aircraft, dubbed "Sukhoi 27" (or "Su-27" in short) officially entered military service in 1985, and continues to serve the national flag in Russia and in other countries including China and India, so far.
The aircraft underwent several modernization operations. There are more than 10 models of this aircraft now.
The Su-27 fighter was not allowed to display its skills during the Cold War. But Su-27 fighter jets fought combat experiences around the world. For example, the Ethiopian Air Force Su-27 aircraft successfully intercepted Eritrean air force aircraft during the war between Ethiopia and Eritrea (1999-2000) and managed to shoot down a number of them.
One of the Sukhoi 27 sisters, known as the Su-35, was successfully used in Syria during the war against terrorism, proving its ability to detect and track down the US Fifth Generation Invisible Fighter when it met an F-22 fighter over the area.
Another sister of the Sukhoi 27 (Su-30MKA) is a major fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
According to the military monitoring portal, the "Sukhoi 27" changed the warplane when it showed that it can use the technology of the next generation of aircraft. The Su-32 aircraft and its derived aircraft, notably the Su-34 and Su-35, are expected to remain in service until the middle of the 21st century.
