On March 20, 1962, the great artist Omar Sarmini was born in the neighborhood of Jaloum near the Great Umayyad Mosque in Aleppo. His father, Sheikh Mohammed Sarmini, graduated from the Khasrafiya School in Aleppo and was a follower of the Naqshbandi method in Sufism.
