Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Saturday that Japan will begin to ease the visa regime for Russian businessmen involved in joint ventures starting in September.
"As of September this year, Japan plans to ease visa regime for Russian businessmen under an eight-point cooperation plan to promote bilateral contacts," Abe told a news conference after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"This is just a procedure for Russian businessmen only," he said.
In addition, Tokyo will ease the procedures for obtaining visas for Russian university students.
"It has also been decided to streamline visa procedures for students at 465 Russian universities to enhance communication among young people," Abe said.
Osaka, Japan, on June 28-29, hosted the G20 Summit this year. At a time when member states face many economic and political challenges, the first G-20 summit hosted by Japan.
