North Korean leader Kim Jong-un personally coordinated Saturday's missile launches towards the Sea of Japan.
Moscow – .. North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said on Sunday the aim of the launch was to test a "new weapons system," noting that Kim, after receiving a weapons report, "instructed to conduct an immediate test" and "test the new weapon on the launch pad."
The agency did not disclose the characteristics of the missiles, but it was reported that the weapons were developed based on the conditions of the North Korean terrain.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that its North neighbor fired two unidentified projectiles towards the Sea of Japan.
The United States and South Korea have begun exercises based largely on computer simulations as an alternative to previous large-scale annual exercises that have been suspended to speed up nuclear disarmament talks.
North Korea has criticized such exercises as war training aimed at toppling its leadership.
