Tunisia rejects 60 presidential candidacy files so far

Breaking news-

The Higher Independent Electoral Commission of Tunisia has rejected more than 60 files for presidential candidates.

The Independent High Electoral Commission of Tunisia (IHEC) explained that the number could rise, due to the lack of sufficient number of recommendations.

He said member of the electoral commission, Anis Jarboui, in a statement to the radio "Mosaic" Tunisian local: The announcement of the list accepted initially will be on August 14 of this month, to be on the 31 of the same month to announce the final list.

As of Friday, August 9, the Tunisian Electoral Commission accepted 97 presidential candidate files, including 80 independent candidates, a week after it was open to accept the presidential candidacy.

Tunisian observers described the high rise in the number of candidates for the presidential election as a "farce", which owners are looking for fame and media appearance, especially as most of them submitted files missing from the recommendations.

The electoral law imposes on each candidate to provide 10,000 popular references or the recommendation of ten deputies of parliament to accept the file, but a large number of candidates did not commit to provide the required recommendations.

The Supreme Electoral Commission of Tunisia announced that the presidential elections will be held on September 15, instead of the November date set for legislative elections, after the death of the late President Béji Kaid Essebsi.

On July 5, following his discharge from hospital, Essebsi signed a presidential decree calling for voters to be elected to the 2019 legislative and presidential elections.
